Uzbekistan Winter Tour
Although Uzbekistan may not seem like the natural choice for a winter holiday, winter is the ideal time to discover the country’s evocative Silk Road cities in peace and tranquillity. On this Uzbekistan Winter Tour, you’ll follow in the footsteps of caravans as you journey to the fabled trading hub of Samarkand; visit mosques and madrassahs in the 2,000-year-old city of Bukhara; and experience the blend of old and new in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent. Photograph the famous monuments, including two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, without the crowds and, if you’re very lucky, with a dusting of snow. Depending on your departure date, you may also be able to celebrate New Year’s Eve in local style.

The country’s climate is hot, dry and continental because of no direct access to the sea or ocean.
Winter in Uzbekistan unlike other countries of this area is cold enough. Winter weather may change very sharp: sunny days can be replaced by stormy and rainy ones several times during a week. Annual amount of precipitation falls in winter – nearly 30-40%.
In the north of Uzbekistan moderate climatic conditions dominate while subtropical one does in the far south of the country.
Mostly dry and hot weather prevails during a year. The daylight contains 15 hours in summer and no less than 9 hours in winter. In the north the average sunlight is 2500-3000 hours and in the south it is 2800-3130 hours. It is comparable with California, the US with the same condition. In Uzbekistan it is cold in winter and hot in summer . January is the coldest month of the year while July is the hottest. Though the average winter temperature is about -23°C, in the north it may fall as low as -35,-40°C. However, there may be enough warm days during winter time.
Uzbekistan doesn’t feature with heavy and long-lying snowfall. The average snowfall is about 5-15 centimeters.
Spring usually starts in February in the southern parts while it reaches in April in northern area of the country. The weather is changeable in spring with warm, chilly and sometimes cold days.
Summer starts even in May in the south and remains till august. In summer the temperature is about +35, +40°C and sometimes it may reach +50, +60°C in deserts.
Samarkand, the old city and cultural crossroads on the Silk Road, located at 700 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level, has also a climate similar to that of Tashkent, though a little less hot in summer because of the higher altitude. Annual precipitation is around 355 mm (14 in), so it’s slightly lower than in the capital, but it follows a similar pattern, with a maximum in winter and spring and virtually no rain in summer.
The average annual rainfall is about 100-200 mm which mostly occurs in spring and winter as well as precipitation.

Arrival in Tashkent. Meet your driver and transfer to the hotel. Check in at noon. Free day.
At 06:30 transfer to Tashkent train station (packed breakfast provided by the hotel). Take the high-speed Afrosiyob train to Bukhara at 07:28, arriving at 11:20. Transfer to the hotel and check-in to your room to deposit your luggage and take a short break. Then, enjoy a guided walking sightseeing tour of Bukhara’s Old City. Visit the Lyabi Hauz Ensemble, Magoki-Attori Mosque, trading domes, Chor-Minor Madrassah, Kalyan Minaret, Kalyan Mosque, Miri-Arab Madrassah, Ulugbek and Abdulazizkhan Madrassahs, Ark Fortress, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, and Ismail Samani and Chashma-Ayub Mausoleums. Overnight at the hotel.
Duration of sightseeing tour: 6-7 hours
Breakfast. Start the second day with a visit to Sitorai Mokhi-khosa, the summer residence of Bukhara’s last emir and a unique combination of Oriental and Russian architecture. Continue to the Memorial Complex of Bakhouddin Naqshbandi and the Chor-Bakr Necropolis. At 14:50 transfer to Bukhara train station to take the high-speed Afrosiyob train to Samarkand, which departs at 15:50 and arrives at 17:25. Transfer to the hotel for overnight.
Duration of sightseeing tour: 3-4 hours
After breakfast, take a sightseeing tour of the fascinating city of Samarkand. Visit the spectacular Registan Square, the remains of the Bibi Khanum Mosque, the Siyob Bazaar, the Ulugbek Observatory, the Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis, and the Gur Emir (Tamerlane’s Mausoleum). Overnight at the hotel.
Duration of sightseeing tour: 6-7 hours
Breakfast, followed by hotel check-out. Continue the sightseeing tour with visits to the Afrasiab Museum and the Tomb of Saint Daniel. Drive to Konigil village to explore the traditional way of making Samarkand paper from the bark of the mulberry tree. Then enjoy some free time in Samarkand with a car and driver at your disposal. At 16:00, transfer to the railway station to take the high-speed Afrosiyob train to Tashkent, which departs at 17:00 and arrives at 19:10. Transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Breakfast. At 10:00 start a guided sightseeing tour of Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, the largest city in Central Asia. Visit the Old City, which includes the Khast-Imam Complex and Chorsu Bazaar. Within the Khast-Imam Complex, see the world-famous Quran of Caliph Uthman and visit the Madrassah of Barak-Khan, Tilla Sheikh Mosque, Mausoleum of Saint Abu Bakr Kaffal Shashi, and Islamic Institute of Imam al-Bukhari. Explore the vibrant Chorsu Bazaar. Travel to the city centre on the architecturally-impressive Tashkent Metro, walk around Amir Temur Square and Independence Square, and then explore the State Museum of Applied Art. Free time. Overnight at the hotel.

Breakfast, followed by hotel check-out (by 12:00). Transfer to Tashkent International airport. Departure. End of the tour.
